"One of the things I love about Jacey Boggs as a teacher is that she doesn't mess around by saying what she's teaching is quick or easy. She firmly states that you have to be able to spin to make textured yarns, and the better spinner you are the better texture yarns you will make and the more the process will make sense. There are 8 different types of yarn to make with this book, each building on the skill set of the one before it. She starts the book with a basic wrap technique and ends with a three layered yarn that is the spinning equivalent of rubbing your stomach, patting your head and dancing a jig all at the same time. In between she teaches about loop, coils, corespinning, beehives and all of the combinations of skills that make up the yarns that Jacey is known for and has been teaching around the world. There are typically 4-6 photos for each technique in this book and 2 of those are (really gorgeous) beauty shots. The remaining photos exactly illustrate the crux of making each yarn. These process shots were clearly chosen by Jacey herself. Each yarn technique is broken down into numbered written steps and explained in mechanical detail: set your wheel up this way, your fiber hand does this and your drafting hand does this. There is no magic. With this book, you learn yarn making in a way that is a repeatable, intentional yarn. You can look at the pictures and read the words and watch the DVD to have the lessons soak into your spinning mind through a variety of learning styles. The DVD follows each of the yarn lessons in the book -- it's very straightforward. It's great to see Jacey spin at her regular pace and also slowed down, so you can see the steps. I found myself rewinding to watch parts over and over. I will repeat that you have to know how to spin already to use this book; it's not for beginners. Even the most determined beginner might find themselves in a puddle of tears and cusswords if you try to leap straight into this type of yarn making. Spin-tastic!!

Flawlessly photographed...expertly presented. The definitive bible on textured/art yarns. Jacey shows you how to craft spectacular yarns, that are made to last. You won't find anything slap dash, fly by the seat of your pants here. This book is chock filled with techniques you want to know now! The book dives into the hardcore techniques that some spinnners crave. Even if you're and experienced spinner, you will find valuable little tidbits throughout.

The book is very technical, it goes the extra mile where other spinning books don't. I broke the rules and started spinning 4 years ago, before I had a clue. I wish this book had come out 4 years ago! It covers equipment, orifice styles, guides, tensioning. There's a handy chapter on "tips" which is a good reminder to seasoned spinners as how to construct yarn, and I assume will be a revelation to new spinners. Jacey leaves no stone unturned. The book covers a myriad of spinning styles. From corespinning, to wild tailspinning...even faux boucle...and something called "bubblewrapping" which I can't wait to try. The book is perfectly couched with excellent illustrations, and how-to numbered snapshots that walk you through each technique. Did I mention the colorful awesome photos? The yarns are juicy with color, they make you want to run to your spinning wheel and get spinning! I have many spinning books, they are all really good. This one is one of my new favorites...I am super excited to get to attend one of Jacey's workshops coming up next year.

12/25 Follow up, I watched the accompanying DVD.

It was very well thought out, and presented. I have to note the lighting wasn't as good as I would have liked. I found it a little distracting. The DVD was informative, yet I much preferred the fresh-raw format of the Sit & Spin video in comparison.
**Tailspinning was not covered in the DVD. It was the one technique I wanted to see Jacey put "her spin" on. (pun intended!) I give the DVD 4 stars, A for effort.

Crazy fun spinning!

I must admit, the first time I saw Jacey Boggs' yarns I wasn't impressed. As a knitter and a spinner, what use did I have for yarn with felted eyeballs in it? I figured she was a fad and that she'd blow over and disappear, leaving the field for "serious" spinners. I can't tell you how wrong I was and how happy I am to have been so wrong.

This last summer I took a 3-day class with Jacey at the prodding of a fiber friend. My mind was blown. Apparently, when she takes on a challenge, Jacey jumps in head first and completely immerses herself in the task. When she started spinning, she spent 4-6 hours a day making yarn. That's pretty incredible for a new spinner. I've been spinning for almost 20 years (off and on) and she said things that made me re-evaluate what I was doing and actually do it better.

What does that have to do with this book? Let me tell you. Boggs spent so much time spinning in order to figure out what the fiber will do so that she could then make it do what SHE wanted (know the rules so you know which ones you can break). If you understand the structure of fiber and the effects of the work you're doing, you'll understand the resulting yarn and be able to incorporate it into your own work very precisely.

Spin Art is essentially a multi-day workshop with Jacey sitting next to you and showing you what to do. She starts you off with easily do-able yarns. Even if you've never tried "art yarn", you can make these first few. Once you conquer those, you will be able to work your way through the book trying everything. The pictures are wonderful and while her descriptions may seem strange, do exactly what she says the first time through. It will all become clear, I promise.

This is the follow up to Jacey Boggs'first, wildly successful DVD on spinning art yarn. This book builds on the techniques shown last DVD by going into step by step detail on everything from how to set up your spinning wheel to how to hold your hands with gorgeous pictures to illustrate. This book is a must have and not just for art yarn spinners. It teaches fiber control and wheel set ups that benefit even the most vanilla of yarn spinners.

Go for it.

I have been a student of Occult-Metaphysics for the past 45 years. If you have tried to read the Secret Doctrine by H.P.B. and had some difficulty, I highly recommend that you get this book and read it through. Then I would encourage you to give the SD another try, because I think you will be on a different level, and I think you will get more out of it. One single nugget will be worth your effort, but many more await you. This material is worth all the effort you can put into it. As Sir Winston Churchill is so often quoted: "Never give up. Never. Never. Never." JD

VERY SPECIAL BOOK

I love Sylvia Browne and every one of her books. She is an awesome person who has much knowledge and wisdom about Mother and Father God, Angels, Spirit Guides, etc. If you are open to life and the world around you you can't help but love the books Sylvia writes. They are filled with so much love, wonder, fact, research, enlightenment, etc. She is truly a wonderful person who has opened up a whole new world to me. My life has changed drastically for the better. This book will enlighten you and prove to you there is a Mother God and she is awesome. Open up to her and let her in and awesome things will start to happen to you in your life. Who couldn't use more enlightenment, love and miracles in their life? Get this book and read it. I got it on Thursday night and had it read by Friday afternoon the next day. I couldn't put it down. It is filled with so much wonderful information, love, enlightenment and wonderful stories by real life people. It is a book that only God could have written through Slyvia of course. Thank Mother and Father God for Slyvia and all their unconditional love and caring. God bless you Sylvia and please keep up the awesome work you do and keep writing those books! Please. Having studied all aspects of all spiritual paths,religions,dogmas,etc..I found it to be a great refresher!This book should be titled for beginners seeking truth in an all loving God/Goddess-FEMALE/MALE.For God/Goddess is all loving.
Once again the incomparable controversial Sylvia Browne shares her light with the uninformed-I LOVE IT!You will learn many paths & Traditions that you may never have heard of,if your new to seeking truth in God/Goddess.I especially love how Sylvia shoots straight from the hip and offers such wonderful insights with references/weblinks to seek out what she puts forth.A really great read and an easy one to understand.I Love you Sylvia.

Even as a child growing up outside Buffalo, New York, Amy Lansky sensed that the world was a bit more mysterious than it appeared on the surface. After many years working as a computer scientist, she now pursues her life passion—to uncover deeper truths hidden behind the veil of our consensual reality. Lansky’s first book, Impossible Cure: The Promise of Homeopathy (www.impossiblecure.com), explored an unconventional form of healing—homeopathy. It quickly became one of the best-selling introductory books on homeopathic medicine and is now used as a patient education book and textbook all over the world. In this, her second book, Lansky explores the mysterious realm of human consciousness. Active Consciousness: Awakening the Power Within (www.activeconsciousness.com) draws on her interest in paranormal phenomena, her expertise in alternative medicine, her meditation studies, and even her research experience in artificial intelligence. Lansky graduated from the University of Rochester in 1977 with degrees in mathematics and computer science, and she received her doctorate in computer science from Stanford University in 1983. She did research work in artificial intelligence at several Silicon Valley institutions, including SRI International and NASA Ames Research Center, until she left the field in 1998 to pursue her interest in homeopathic medicine. This unusual move was prompted by the miraculous cure of her son’s autism with homeopathy. Since 2005, Lansky has been a student of Gary Sherman and Ellen Miller, the creators of a system of self-development and inquiry called perceptual integration (www.deepening.com). Amy Lansky is widely regarded as an expert writer and speaker on homeopathy. She has been featured at several conferences, her articles have appeared in leading magazines and online forums, and she hosted a radio show on homeopathic treatment of autism on Autism One Radio from 2006–2009. Lansky also served on the board of the National Center for Homeopathy from 2004–2011. She currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband Steve Rubin, and is an avid pianist, vocalist, and painter. She also enjoys needlework, swimming, and canoeing the lakes of Canada.

A Book That Will Change Your Life

We live in a time where the fate of the earth itself seems to hang in the balance, and people struggle with widespread feelings of powerlessness. In the past I've wondered, are the many popular books on shaping reality just wish-fulfillment? Amy Lansky has written the most well-grounded, reality-based book on the subject that anyone could ask for, in a style that is a pleasure to read. She makes scientific and philosophical concepts enjoyable and easy for anyone to understand. With a clear, visionary yet scientific approach, she ties together: current theories in physics and mathematics on extra spatial dimensions and the nature of the universe; an overview of high-quality studies of paranormal phenomena; and an overview of common understanding about the nature of reality in various ancient wisdom traditions. She teases out the common links which could begin to illuminate the hidden aspects of our Universe, including the possible existence of a unified field, the "zero-point field" of physics, which she proposes could be the ground of universal consciousness. She then explores the nature of human beings, considering evidence that we ourselves may exist in more than three spatial dimensions, and how higher-dimensional aspects of ourselves could easily affect our 3-dimensional world in ways that seem inexplicable from our limited, 3-D perspective. For me it was a delight to have such weighty subjects explained so clearly, with plenty of helpful analogies.

Ms. Lansky then discusses how, when we rise above the chatter of our daily existence, we can learn to enter a state of deep, active consciousness, in which we are in fact able to shape reality through the loving intentions of our highest selves. And the icing on this wonderful cake: she lays out a program of simple but extremely well-focused meditation exercises through which any reader can train themselves to connect more fully with their higher consciousness, and truly change their own life and help to influence the world around them. I am behind this book 100%. I believe these methods can be used as a tool to help bring about the evolution that many in our world are currently striving for. I'm about to leave home on a 2-month study trip, and I plan to take the exercises with me. Since reading this book and beginning the practices I have already noticed an increase in synchronicities in my life, and an greater sense of being assisted in the life goals on which I'm focusing.

You are more powerful than you realize, harness it!

If you have an interest in both science and spirituality, this book is an excellent read. Amy Lansky writes in a very accessible way, making scientific and esoteric subjects understandable and more importantly, very enjoyable to read. I love Ken Wilbur, I think he's brilliant, but I'd rather have Amy Lansky explaining these concepts to me in her succinct and clear way. She references her work so you can dig deeper and look further if you want to.

I love how she uses examples and analogies to bring her point across to the reader. The exercises included in the book let you take it out of a solely intellectual pursuit and have an experiential encounter with the material.

Amy writes from a place of clarity, both from the heart and the intellect. Thank you Amy for bringing your ideas and experiences to humanity in such a fun and authentic way!

The author is at heart a consciousness seeker, explorer and activist. Drawing from Lansky's luminous intelligence and keen imagination, she gives methods and practices for obtaining higher states of knowing. Most importantly this book presents a clear imperative to become an active participant for our own and collective well-being.

What is so compelling about Active Consciousness is that it is written with the rigor of a scientific thinker with the warmth and craft of a good storyteller. A 'kingdom' is a group of people ruled by one person, the 'king', who makes all the laws himself without their votes or approval. The concept is anathema to contemporary democracy and its confidence in government by the people, the naive assumption that majorities will always get it right. History does not encourage optimism. There have been more bad kings than good, even in God's chosen people Israel. Behind our world's problems, which baffle our finest politicians and philosophers, lies a fundamental, racial and fatal error of having chosen the wrong king. Born into his kingdom, he has deceived us into thinking we can each of us be our own kingdom, inevitably clashing with each other, as individuals or nations. The only solution is to find the right king and become his loyal citizens. One day all other kingdoms will be shaken to pieces but this will remain, for ever. Only then will the conflict, in which every one of us is involved, be resolved.

A very astute and timely book.

This is a very inspiring and challenging book and extremely timely with current world events unfolding all around us. David Pawson has studied The Bible at depth for most of his 85 years producing in him a fluent, affective teaching of scriptural truth. Thank you David for this latest biblical offering of the truth that sets us free.
